Who we are

The Italian Political Science Association is a non-profit cultural association that aims to promote the development of political science in Italy, the exchange and collaboration of scholars of the discipline in Italy and abroad as well as the coordination of institutional structures for teaching and research. 

In the spring of 1973, the Italian Section of Political Science was established within the Italian Association of Political and Social Sciences. Giovanni Sartori was its President from 1973 to 1975. Norberto Bobbio followed from 1976 to 1978 and Alberto Spreafico from 1979 to 1981.

In 1981, the Section was formed into the Italian Political Science Association.

Alberto Spreafico was its first President until 1984, followed by Mario Stoppino (1985 – 1988), Luigi Bonanate (1989 – 1991), Giorgio Freddi (1992 – 1997), Leonardo Morlino (1998 – 2001), Maurizio Cotta (2001 – 2004), Fulvio Attinà (2004 – 2007), Mauro Calise (2007 – 2010), Gianfranco Pasquino (2010 – 2013), Pietro Grilli di Cortona (2013 – July 1, 2015), Pierangelo Isernia (pro tempore, July 2015 – September 2015), Simona Piattoni (September 2015 – September 2018), Francesca Longo (October 2018 – September 2021).

Since October 1, 2021, the President of SISP is Luca Verzichelli.

The ordinary members of SISP are about 400.
