"Multilateralism Contested"

TRENTO, 3-5 SEPTEMBER

Guidelines for Sections, Roundtables and Panels

The Conference will be held entirely in person. Remote or hybrid participation will not be available.

 Sections

Sections group panels according to thematic affinity. Each Section is coordinated by two chairs, who receive the panel and paper proposals and organize them on the basis of the submissions received. The list of Sections is defined by the SISP Executive Committee. During the sessions, an equitable gender representation and an adequate generational balance should be ensured as far as possible.

Roundtables

Each Section may include only one Roundtable.
A Roundtable includes one moderator and 3 or 4 participants.

The moderator is responsible for:

  • agreeing in advance with each participant on the content of the intervention;
  • allocating speaking time in a balanced way;
  • reserving at least 30 minutes for discussion with the audience.

Panel Composition

Each panel must include at least 3 papers. Panels with fewer than 3 papers will be cancelled. Papers may be reallocated to other panels, in accordance with the numerical limits established.

Each panel session may include a maximum of 6 papers (4 papers presented orally and up to 2 “tabled” papers).

Tabled papers

It is possible to accept 1 or 2 papers as “tabled papers”, meaning contributions that will not be presented orally but will be made available to participants and may be discussed during the final part of the session.

In the event that an accepted paper is withdrawn before the conference, a tabled paper may be converted into an oral presentation. Authors should be informed promptly of any change in the status of their paper.

Panels split into two sessions

If the number of submissions makes it appropriate, a panel may be split into two sessions. This decision will depend on the overall number of approved panels and on logistical constraints.

In the case of panels organized across two sessions, it is possible to designate one discussant for each session. Each session is considered independently for the purposes of organizing the discussion.

Reallocation of papers

If a paper is considered worthy of presentation but there is no space available in the proposed panel, Section coordinators may propose reallocating it to another panel.

Reallocation may also occur across different Sections. The conference secretariat is available to support coordination among Section chairs during this process.

Any reallocation must respect the established numerical limits and will be agreed with the Conference organizers.

For information about the Conference and for assistance with the submission of panels and papers, you may write to convegno@sisp.it

For organizational reasons, requests to be scheduled on specific days of the Conference cannot be accommodated. Participants are therefore advised to ensure their availability for all days of the Conference.

Roles and limits of participation

An author may present a maximum of two papers, provided that they are not presented in the same panel.

A participant may serve at most as:

  • chair or discussant in 3 panels;
  • chair or discussant in 1 panel and present 2 papers;
  • chair or discussant in 2 panels and present 1 paper.

Conduct of sessions

Panel Chairs must ensure that papers are circulated well in advance and must promptly inform the Section Coordinator and the SISP Secretariat of any changes in the composition of the panel or Roundtable.

They are also responsible for the proper conduct of the session, ensuring that the schedule is respected and that speaking time is fairly distributed among presenters and discussants. Panel Chairs must conclude the session in time to allow the next session to begin punctually.

Paper submission: Information and procedure

Please note that the conference proceedings will not be published. Authors are therefore not required to follow specific formatting guidelines when preparing their paper.

The sole purpose of the submitted text is to allow the discussant to review the work and prepare their comments for the panel.

Papers must be uploaded through the author’s personal MySISP account. Access to and downloading of the texts will be restricted exclusively to the panel’s Chair and Discussant. At the end of the conference, all papers will be removed from the platform.

Submitting the paper does not affect the originality of the text and therefore does not constitute an obstacle to the subsequent publication of the article in scientific journals.
