    Room B 13.2 - TAVOLA ROTONDA: Energia e politica internazionale nel bacino del Mediterraneo: Sfide ed opportunità per il XXI secolo

    All’inizio degli anni Novanta opinione condivisa da molti era che il bacino del Mediterraneo fosse destinato a diventare un quadrante secondario per gli equilibri internazionali. La sua natura di snodo strategico per il commercio internazionale, i sommovimenti politici che lo hanno attraversato e l’attivismo che ha contraddistinto l’atteggiamento di numerose potenze in questo quadrante hanno evidentemente dimostrato il contrario nell’ultimo ventennio. Tra i fattori che hanno contribuito in misura determinante a riaffermarne la centralità, quello energetico ha rivestito un ruolo cruciale. Non solo perché sul Mediterraneo insiste una delle aree più energivore del pianeta – l’Europa – ma anche perché attraverso questo mare passano la possibilità di un’effettiva diversificazione degli approvvigionamenti energetici del continente, l’opportunità di contribuire alla transizione ecologica sostituendo per quanto possibile l’uso del petrolio con quello del gas e, infine, lo sfruttamento di nuovi – e ricchissimi – giacimenti di energia. A causa della sua profonda interdipendenza con il contesto politico-strategico menzionato in principio, la dimensione energetica pone gli attori statali e non statali che si affacciano sul Mediterraneo di fronte a sfide e opportunità, nonché al ricorrente dilemma tra competizione – i cui vantaggi sono riscuotibili a breve termine – e cooperazione – capace di produrre benefici nel medio-lungo termine. A discutere dei protagonisti, degli interessi e degli scenari che si prospettano per la partita energetica mediterranea del XXI secolo saranno chiamati – nella forma della tavola rotonda – politologi e rappresentanti dei principali stakeholder italiani del settore.
