6 PhD Scholarships in International Studies University of Trento (Italy)

FUNDING INFORMATION

The PhD programme lasts three years, with a start date on 1 November 2017. The scholarships are funded as follows:

– 5 by the University of Trento, Italy

– 1 by EURAC Research (Bolzano).

The scholarship is awarded for three years, subject to satisfactory progress, and is increased by 50% during research periods abroad. The scholarship is adequate to cover living expenses in Trento; no tuition fees are charged.

RESEARCH

Besides the main research strand of the School of International Studies that deals with  ‘Integration and disintegration of the European Union’, particular emphasis will be given to research projects on the following subjects:

Technology, Revolution in Military Affairs (RMA), and International Politics

Bargaining, voting and power in European decision-making processes

‘Complex’ commerce: disputed areas, embargos and sanctions

Cross-Border Co-operation, Sub-National Entities and Multi-Level Governance (scholarship funded by EURAC Research)

Faculty members’ research interests

ELIGIBILITY

Candidates who hold a Master’s Degree in one of the core disciplines of International Studies (mainly, but not limited to, Political Science, Sociology, Law, Economics and Humanities). Candidates who expect to be awarded their Master’s degrees by 31 July 2017 may also apply.

An advanced knowledge of the English Language (C1 level or higher) is required.

PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION

The PhD Programme, entirely in English, is characterized by a strong interdisciplinary approach; it includes structured coursework (mainly first year) as well as periods for individual research abroad.

The programme provides students with excellent and advanced understanding of complex international processes in a rapidly changing world, and increases opportunities for employment as advanced researchers in university and international research centers, governmental and non-governmental organizations at European and international levels, as well as private companies operating globally.
