Instructors: Francesco Olmastroni Invia una email a Francesco Olmastroni and Kaat Smets Invia una email a Kaat Smets – CIRCaP, University of Siena

This workshop offers a first glance at the usage of the statistical software package Stata in political science. We start with an overview of the structure of the program by describing the main windows and file types. Next we turn to describing data with univariate and bivariate statistics such as the mean, the standard deviation, frequency tables, cross tabs, correlations, etc. The last part of the workshop will be devoted to defining variables and values, the process of recoding and the treatment of missing values. Examples will be provided using Stata 11.0.

Participants of the course – which is taught in English – will be offered a free trial version of the program. For organizational purposes please register in advance by sending an e-mail to smets@unisi.it

Instructor: Rosanna De Rosa Invia una email a Rosanna De Rosa – Università di Napoli Federico II

Mainly tailored to cyberspace neophytes.

I shall present some of the best electronic resources currently available on-line for political science, drawing from my experience as assistant editor of IPSAPortal, the International Political Science Association’s website, dedicated to selecting and reviewing the top e-hubs in our discipline.

I will also highlight the major changes occurring in electronic publishing, with a focus on open access and knowledge sharing.
